I was a bit torn though between those two ratings, so just keep that in mind. So I think "Teen" is the right rating, rather than "Mature". Honestly, I'm pretty tame about it, though. Read with caution, as I technically include an explicit word in the author's note, and I discuss some sexual stuff in the fic. My second Switched at Birth fic attempt, and my first one that is just a oneshot. Noah/Daphne, and the Daphne & Emmett friendship are both only mentioned in passing, but they are mentioned in a positive light as well, and the character of Regina is heavily featured. (The fic ends with a Bay/Emmett scene, but honestly both ships leave on a pretty good note in my opinion, and I think I treat both guys fairly and if you ship either relationship you should enjoy this, or even if you just like Bay and don't care about her ships.) (She doesn't know she's asexual yet at the start of the fic.) What if Bay was asexual? She deals with the challenges that being asexual brings as she dates both Ty and Emmett in the fic. Bay Kennish grew up in a wealthy family with two parents and a brother, while Daphne Vasquez, who lost her hearing at an early age due to a case of meningitis, grew up with a single mother in a poor neighborhood.
